Iraqi Dinar History

History of the New Iraqi Dinar

The Saddam currency (Old Iraqi Dinar) was introduced after the last Gulf War to replace older currency that was no longer recognized outside Kurdish-controlled regions.

The New Iraqi Dinar was introduced on October 15, 2003. This new currency has now replaced the older notes bearing the image of Saddamm Hussein. One Old Iraqi Dinar is exchanged for one New Iraqi Dinar, and one "Swiss" Dinar is exchanged for 150 New Iraqi Dinar.

The New Iraqi Dinar banknote series is available in the denominations of 5,000, 10,000, 25,000, and was launched by Central Bank of Iraq. Officials of the Coalition Provisional Authority see the ascent of the New Iraqi Dinar as a vote of confidence in the economy.

The New Iraqi Dinar currency is more secure, unlike the easy-to-counterfeit old Saddam Dinar. It has many visible, as well as several invisible security features that are virtually impossible to fake. This new and secure currency will undoubtedly provide a stable foundation for future economic growth in Iraq. CLICK HERE to preview the security features of the New Iraqi Dinar!
